Final Reflection, Chosen Blog Post #2

Outcome 3:

I write my annotations as if I was talking to the essay.  I made comments as if they could actually hear me and respond, talking with the reading as if it was able to talk back; I was right there with Chabon and his son at Paris fashion week. My thought process while reading the essay was that if I talk with the essay instead of trying to analyze what they are doing right at that very moment, I will be able to see the whole picture more clearly when the essay is finished. I can analyze more extensively and extrapolate more information because I was there. I wasn’t just reading the essay, I was talking with the writer, I was making points on the paper while he was talking about the week. This made it so I was able to think about things in a different light.  I didn’t have to guess as to what was going on, I knew. I could picture everything happening, which made me think about the entirety of the essay instead of that specific, small moment. It made writing the blog post a lot easier because I didn’t have to keep referencing back to the reading because my style of reading put everything into my head. I didn’t have to stop and think about things in the middle of reading because I made commentary on the reading like I was analyzing a play in football that just happened in front of me. I was also able to question the essay in the moment, thinking about if Chabon wrote something a different way and his son had to fix it, or if he just asked his son what to write. I wondered if everything fashion related was only correct because of his son, or if Chabon actually had some idea of what he was talking about. It also helped that when I was ending my middle school career and starting the first couple of years of high school everybody knew a lot about fashion because of the very large amount of rich people that went to my school. I would walk into a room and there would be a $20,000 Hublot watch sitting on the desk, while the kid was wearing a $20,000 Cartier watch with a Gucci outfit from head to toe, including the back pack. People would have clothes that they didn’t even know the name of – you would ask them who they were wearing, they would usually respond with they didn’t know, they just liked the jacket, and then you would proceed to google the jacked and it was $4,500. Over the years I gained a lot of knowledge on the fashion industry and this essay reminded me a great deal about it, making the essay very relatable in regards to high fashion. All of this really helped me write my essay, as I was able to experience the reading to its fullest.  I knew everything that was being talked about so it made it as if I was actually there, I could picture all that was happening with total clarity.
